Default Z06 Shocks on my 2000 Base

Hello,

I just wanted to say after reading many posts the z06 shocks made a huge difference in how the car handles and drives. I love the ride quality and don't find it too firm, just enough and in high speed turns the car handles so much better! If you are thinking about it, just do it! My favorite two mods so far are the MGW short shifter and the Z06 shocks!

The install was actually pretty easy! I have a quick jack so that helps for sure. I used a pc of wire out of a Romex cable to hold the shock compressed for removal and installation. No special tools needed and there are many videos on youtube showing the job. I purchased them at gmparts.com and they had 20% off all suspension parts and free shipping.

I also have a 2000 and was thinking about this upgrade. Do you have an FE1 or Z51 car? The reason I haven’t done this mod yet is because my car has the Z51 suspension which I believe came with a shock stiffness somewhere between the FE1 and C5ZO6 shocks plus stiffer springs and larger sway bars so I’m not sure if I would experience the dramatic difference that others have therefor I haven’t felt motivated to upgrade to the C6ZO6 shocks yet.

I have a FE1 car and from the original shocks the ride is much more like a sports car. Now, my car is 25 years old with 40k miles so I'm sure they were worn as well. The car was riding like a Cadillac and bouncing over bumps. Now it's firm but not a harsh ride at all and great in the corners. Not sure how much different it would be from a z51. I can say the shock body itself is much beefier as well from the FE1 shock. I did purchase the c6 z06 shocks not the c5 version. To me it was a huge upgrade and well worth the $400 bucks.

This was one of the first mods I did to my base. I took it a step further by adding Z springs
No regrets!

It was not a huge difference that I can remember. I immediately lowered the car afterwards because that was my goal.

On my last coupe I used the C6Z06 shocks and c5z swaybars. No deterioration in ride quality and improved handling all around.

agreed! Better in everyway! I used c6z06 shocks as well. I have to try and find a good deal on sway bars now. Lol

another believer!!😉 I believe all of my stuff came from ‘GM Parts Warehouse”. I think the guys changed the name, but I cannot recall it. I’ll tell you, when I did the changes, I was worried, partly because the C5 ride is so good you’d never think it could handle like it does. First ride, after about 2 minutes I was grinning ear to ear.
