there should be no problem with the accuracy of the needle. The newest gauges are "coreless"... meaning that they do not operate like the old style spring-return meters did.
Re: Aluminum Bezel Owners Inside,,,small error = Major Problem!!!! (Black99Corvette)
I guess sometimes the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is right....
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree:
This is exactly the reason I have not done this mod, seems like way too much trouble and potential for problems IMHO
Re: Aluminum Bezel Owners Inside,,,small error = Major Problem!!!! (PJW001)
To all who are thinking about this mod. DO IT! Really. I am not a technical genius, but have a few things myself because it is fun and I am cheap: I have done Z06 sway bars, bilstein shocks, painted my calipers, lowered my car, and a few other mods. This mod is time consuming and there are a few sections you migth get frustrated for a few minutes, but if you follow the instructions via the Vette Essentials pictorial whiich I felt was better than the LAPD instructions (IMO), it is really pretty easy.
Here is a TRICK or something I DID that I have never seen anyone mention before. Print out the instructions for the install and as you are following them and doing each step and removing the screws etc. actually "TAPE THE PIECES" you remove to the page that has a picture for that specific step in the instructions. Then lay the pages in order along with any parts you removed from the car like trim pieces etc.
Then you know exactly where each screw etc. came from and can just reverse the order when you have to put everything back together. It really helped me and the few extra minutes it took me to do this made the install go very smoothly.
I did the install 2 times and it really wasn't bad at all. I could do it again easily now and I am pretty sure without even looking at the instructions.
My wife thought it was one of the better mods I did, she thought it really added a lot to the interior and made it look sporty/classy.

Re: Aluminum Bezel Owners Inside,,,small error = Major Problem!!!! (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
Bandit - thanks for this post. I've been thinking about buying/installing the bezels ever since I first saw them last year but just haven't had the guts. I might just take the plunge. My biggest concern was not the dis-assembly or assembly of the IP but getting the bezels in place and not allowing any adhesive to ooze out and show. And I've always wondered what would happen a few years from now after the car has gone through many hot/cold cycles and one day one of the bezels falls off.
Those bezels really do add a "old world" charm to the vette's gauges.
Re: Aluminum Bezel Owners Inside,,,small error = Major Problem!!!! (AFVETTE)
One more thing, I drove the car at night and they look really cool, but on the right side by the blue light, and a lttle on teh left, there are several white specs that light up when the blue light shines on them. They are dust that I didn't get the inside of the plastic piece, oh well, I can live with it and it isn't too noticeable, except to me :D

Every time I take on a project and don't test it before I put it back together, something goes wrong. Great, you have patience and have solved your problem.
