I just got this GM timing sprocket (PN 12576407) delivered today and noticed some small burrs on the outside of the teeth.
Would you just file them smooth or return it. I'm leaning towards filing them off.....

with the discolor and burrs me personally would return. Never since discoloring like that. 40yrs building and working on engines.
Man quality these days are unbelievably.
I'm with Helga203 on this one. Granted, my lifetime experience with timing sets is like seven or eight, spread out over several engine makes and models, but none have ever had a detectable burr edge from the factory. Is the discoloration a result of being zoomed in so much?

Thanks for the responses.
Took the picture with my phone (iPhone 16 pro camera) and the zoom feature....It does make the color show what I think are remnants of heat treating the teeth.
It looks more normal with just a regular picture.
I did clean up the small burrs and its probably fine but after ready some opinions I am going to see if they will exchange it.
I have time, I'm not going in on the car until the snow is flying.
Well, good on Tick Performance.
They are sending a replacement, no additional shipping charge and are not even asking for the first one back after seeing my picture.
I hope the second one is a little better....I'll admit I'm a little surprised a genuine GM part (Cloyes I think supplies them) was in that shape.
Same here, whenever i get a subpar part and show them they always say do what u want with it because they know its less than par parts and will take a change the customer will keep it. Michigan Sports supplier is notrouise of this practice.
