Slave cylinder spacing issue
When I attempted to install my slave cylinder I noticed that I had a negative Gap or preload on my pressure plate. Initially I Shrugged it off, slapped it together, and ran it for a while but had to take the transmission out again and bought a second slave in case I might need it.
When attempting to measure with a diffrent throwout bearing I had the same issue. After testing out the second slave cylinder I bought I found that my first was faulty. You'll see in the photos below, once slave has a gap below the throwout and one does not. I tried opening the bleeders and the quick release to make sure that it wasn't trapped fluid limiting travel of the slave and had no movement.
I wanted to share this issue because I scratched my head for 9 months about the cause of this.
for where it might be relevant I'm on a stock 2000 C5 running an luk clutch and throw out bearing.
TLDR
If you're getting negative measurements while shimming your slave cylinder indicating that the throwout bearing will have preload on the pressure plate it may be a faulty slave cylinder.
Faulty slave
Proper fitment
