I posted this a while back and got nothing but smarta$$ troll answers. Hopefully this time some adults can give me some input. I have an 04 base coupe hatchback I bought with 94k on it. It drive pretty well for it's age and miles. However when driving over expansion joints or hitting minor potholes ( unavoidable here in missouri) I get a loud bang, like the hatch is not secure and is slamming onto the the body. . It's latching tight into the locks and releases properly electrical. I've tried adjusting the bump stops, but that didn't help there doesn't appear to be any sort of perimeter seal like I had on my 94. Could that be the issue? Am I missing an adjustment somewere?
Going back over the gasket/seal and can't find any real deformation. is it possible the shocks are bottoming out on hard inpacts?

Just looked at my ‘99. The only seal on the hatch itself is alone the front arch, common to the halo when closed. The primary hatch seal runs the perimeter of the hatch opening, and is approximately 3 cm tall, with less than 1 cm of free compression along the rear edge — in case you’re concerned the seal has settled or shrunk over time. Leading edge from underneath. Leading edge from the side. Body side seal at back edge.
