I am accumulating the parts necessary to install a remote clutch-slave bleeder on my 03 Z.
The exhaust/cat-pipe flanges attach to the exhaust manifolds with M10-1.5 pitch Stover-style flanged locknuts. Best that I can tell, my GM service info lists the tightening-torque value for these nuts as 15 lb-ft. A typical tightening-torque value for a M10 [say DIN 8.8] fastener is around 30 lb-ft, perhaps even more for a prevailing-torque-type nut such as these.
Can anyone confirm that 15 lb-ft is the correct torque value? It is barely enough to overcome the drag of the distorted-thread locknut.`
Isn’t the graphite seal the determining factor for the limited torque here? 30 lb/ft might well crush the seal beyond design capabilities.
I think it is a factor. I was not suggesting that 30 lb-ft be used, only that 15 seems barely adequate to overcome the torque of the prevailing-torque nuts [this on clean, lubed threads].
