clutch problem on start up

clutch problem on start up
when i go to start my 03 manual c5 with car in gear 1 clutch goes straight to floor with no resistance and car will not start or come out of gear. clutch will not return up on its own . how to fix ?. what is cause ? does not happen all the time otherwise runs great 24k miles mint cond.

My best guess is the clutch master cylinder, or very dirty hydraulic fluid. You might try removing the existing fluid from the master cylinder using a turkey beaster and adding new fluid. The clutch pedal does have a return spring have you checked that?

Hope it's just dirty clutch fluid. Keep changing the fluid until it's clear.
Hope it's just a Clutch Master Cylinder going. Easy to change. Bench bleed before you install it. Squirt WD40 on the Quick Detach fitting to make it easier to separate.
Pray it's not the Clutch Slave Cylinder going. Difficult and time consuming to replace.
Now's the time to put in a clutch slave cylinder remote bleeder from Tick or the like.
