Is the **** loose where it has lifted from the shaft some or the inside of the button worn? I would check that area first as the internal shifter parts don't wear much.
Here's what the button is moving, when the spring loaded pin is pushed down it moves the nylon assembly in this case out of park. This contact area under the pin would be where excessive wear could require more button travel.
