Default Auto to manual conversion

Hey guys, I am looking to do a manual swap on my 2001 after my trans crapped out. if anyone has any detailed parts lists/advice that would be greatly appreciated. please do not say “sell it and buy a manual” because i have already done a good amount of engine work to this car to where it would not be worth it in the long run, nor do i ever plan on selling this car. any help would be great, thanks

OK, I won't say, "sell it and buy a manual."
I will say, "get a remanned auto installed, or install it yourself. It will be far cheaper and doable than trying to convert to a manual."

Search the forum, there are multiple threads about it over the years.
Not enough people have done it to have a detailed parts list available.

Actually there was at least one comprehensive conversion thread about 10-12 years ago. IIRC, the OP procured a salvage donor car which made things a bit easier.
Huge waste of time/money IMO. C5s are plentiful and inexpensive......for now.

A built auto from RPM would be 5k, a decent bit more expensive than a manual swap, i’d be doing the work myself either way

Well considering my car is worthless with a blown trans i might as well do the swap since it would be 5k from RPM for a built auto, car is heads/cam/ pretty much entirely gone through except the bottom end so it wouldn’t be worth it in my case to sell and start from scratch with a manual.

To the OP, you will spend as much or more money to convert your car then just buying a manual C5 for about the same price as the conversion.

RPM trans is 5k compared to like 4500 all in for a manual swap, plus with all the engine stuff i have it wouldn’t be worth it to sell and buy a manual from factory

Don't forget the "doable" part. Go ahead and do it - see what the costs turn out to be. And we won't even try to tally up the labor once you've finished.

It really is simple, it’s basically just torque tube removal (which plenty of people have done on jack stands mind you) along with drilling a hole for the master cylinder (which there’s a perforated spot on the carpet that basically tells you where it is) and the 2 wires you must run for the clutch safety. it’s basically just the same as doing a rear main seal but add a couple steps for the clutch hydraulics.

Definitely interested in the outcome and hopefully pics/vids of this project. I think the big key in making this conversion somewhat affordable is the ability to perform the work and not hire out the labor. That and a good donor M6 trans. If you have a SC or plan to add more power, a re-engineered or spec-built trans from RPM or another qualified trans builder would be better than a stock donor trans not built for that type of HP. There are also some nice aftermarket manual brake and clutch pedals if you don't want to cut into the stock (auto) larger brake pedal.

It was insanely hard to find JUST the clutch pedal surprisingly, i ended up just ordering a clutch and brake pedal assembly so i might just swap the whole thing out if it isn’t *too much* trouble, i’ve heard it can be a hassle though. i’ve got all the rear suspension out but i didn’t feel the need to record since it’s been documented one billion times, im gonna record from this point forward though and take pictures aswell. thanks for the help!
