Default Only 3rd brake light works

Have a 02 z06 with just the small 3rd brake light working. Removed the hazard switch and jumped the brown and white wires, pressed pedal still no brake lights. From what I’ve read it appears the turn signal switch is bad. I’ve checked all the related grounds at the back of car. Any ideas where to get a replacement switch at. I normally get parts from rock auto but they don’t have this 1. Thanks for any help!!!!

I had the exact same thing. I have a new multifunction switch, but it ended up being the flasher.
Don’t know why jumping the wires would not work. Last time I looked Rock did have the multifunction switch, but so did Autozone.

I agree with redzg... I had the same symptoms as you, and a replacement flasher unit solved the problem. Can't comment on the brown to white jumper, as I didn't try that.

Got one from Amazon, about $18.

I have an update on situation I’m having with my brake lights not working. I bought a new hazard flasher switch, installed it and still have same problem, only the small 3rd brake light works. When I turn the hazard lights on only the front flash nothing flashes on the rear. Both left and right turn signals work fine, both left and right tail lights work fine. Just no brake lights except the small 3rd 1. I’m really thinking about tapping in to the power wire on the 3rd brake lights and running that out to the left and right brake lights.

So what do you know?:
-The ground to the lights sockets is good, because the tail and turn signals work
-The wiring to from the MFS to the light sockets (dark green wire) is good, because the turn signals work, and the stop lamps use the same wire.

So the question is.....do you have 12v at contact K (white wire) to the hazard switch connector with the brake pedal depressed? If no 12v, then you have an issue between the hazard switch and the brake pedal switch. If you do have 12v, then your next check is at C209, and check for 12v at contact A. .....or..you can start at C209 contact A, and work your way backwards. PITA?...yes. but very simple troubleshooting.

I did some troubleshooting on my vette today. I’m indeed getting 12 volts on the white wire feeding the hazard light switch, only when brake pedal is applied though. I’m unsure where to go from here. What are those other points you referenced with a C?

Once you find C209, you can check everything else.
Harness side - contact A (brown wire) - Should have 12v with the brake pedal depressed
You can also read through the MFS on the plug side, etc.

Well looks like I’m not getting any power on C209 when the brake pedal is applied. I’m trying to wrap my head around all this, I’m good with anything mechanical but I struggle with the electrical stuff. So power leaves the brake pedal switch when brakes applied, goes to the hazard flasher switch, then goes to the multi function switch, then goes out to the rear brake lights. It appears I possibly have a bad multi function switch if I’m reading the prints right.

So with the flasher plugged in and the brake pedal depressed, you are not getting 12v to contact "A" (brown wire) ...checking at the C209 harness side (not plug MFS side)? Perhaps you can post a pic of your setup?

I missed this when you first posted it. Which replacement hazard switch did you get? Not Dorman, I hope? They have definitely been known to be problematic:

By all means check continuity through the multifunction switch as possible, but your symptoms still strike me as hazard switch. If continuity is good, and you decide to try another switch, I suggest Standard Motor Products or Wells — although there is a post on the forum saying a still available GM Buick or Olds switch that fits.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on my vette. I finally got my brake lights working. Bought and installed new hazard flasher switch, still no brake lights, so I put my old hazard switch back in. Removed the multi function switch and tore into it. It had 3 very small torx screws holding the 2 halves together. Once opened up you’ll find around 5 or 6 contacts that open and close depending on the switch inputs. I used some 400 grit sand paper folder in half and opened the contacts up and cleaned them real good. I then used some contact cleaner and gave it a good wash. Put it back together, installed in car and tested. It’s been working over a week now. I hope it last a long time. Thanks for everyone’s help!!!!!!
