I would have no problem removing the precats but I would not remove the main cats. It will be quite a bit louder and might smell alittle. Besides, I am not sure about NY but its very illegal here in NJ :seeya

I pulled all 4 cats and never looked back..but then again in Florida there is no emissions testing. Will the exhaust be louder? ..a little:rolleyes:..smell?..depends on which way the wind is blowing . Hasn't been an issue for me. I basically pulled the cats to install the TPIS headres..just made sense for me. See my install pics on my home page.:D

My car is 6 years old, but I'm not sure if that's a factor. Anyway,
I dropped my cats and mufflers a while back, and I'm loving it. I never
noticed a unusual smell (although I live in Philadelphia). The sound is the
best (and I have good hearing).

A couple of months back, I let a reputable tuner talk me into a couple
of racing cats for about 400.00. He said, "Your car's too freakin' loud;
you're gonna get busted."

The cats are still in the box. I'll put them on when either the cops
start harrassing me, or my inspection comes due...whichever comes first.

It's kind of funny... we all own the same car, but there's still so many
different tastes.

I've passed many a cop; I just make it a point to keep the rpm's
as low as possible.

Fair enough! However, as you said, everyone has different tastes. I guess I'm asking a question that is difficult to answer. Was your car ALOT louder when you removed the cats? Or did you do many changes at one time and there's no way to tell what the difference was?

Thanks!

The mufflers disappeared a long time ago. When the cats went,
it got a LOT louder.

It's obviously not for the faint-hearted... nor the rational type.

Wow! No Mufflers or Cats! I'm just curious about removing the cats and keeping my Corsa mufflers...

Anyone out there have a Corsa exhaust, headers, and no cats?

I have TPIS headers with no cats and a B&B Tri-Flow Rt. 66 exhaust on a 388ci All-Bore(with everything) and it is not loud at all. The B&B PRT's with cats are louder than mine. So in other words the sound level will depend entirely on your cat-back. I will say it sounds awesome w/o the cats. Just a different(meaner) tone than C5's with cats(and I have heard every brand :yesnod: ).

No, but I installed a set of 02 simms. I also have LS1 Edit to tune.

Could you explain what exactly the LS1 edit is? I have heard a lot about it lately and i'm not to sure what it is all about. Thanks a lot!

I had some work done this winter and when they went to dyno tune it, they found the main cats were mostly plugged (honeycomb collapsed). They didn't have any high flow cats in stock so they just gutted the old ones till they get new ones for me. IT STINKS! It stinks in traffic, it stinks slightly inside, and anybody following behind is pissed about the fumes. Leave the cats on is my advice. :yesnod:
Sound? It's louder but not over the top.

Pre-cats, replaced by LT headers.
Post-cats, hand ported to be 'High Flow' cats :D

I first got B&B PRTs thinking they would be loud enough for me but after a couple of months I wished that I would have got the XR1s. I then decided to get a off road x pipe to get rid of the cats. I got one thats completely bolt on so whenever I need to pass emission I can just bolt it back on. In my opinion it made the car sound completely different. Sounds great at idle and WOT but it does have a little raspyness aroudn 2000-3000 rpms. Its worth it though in my opinion, its the best mod I have done so far. Also I have only caught a sniff of the exhaust mabey 3 0r 4 times so you don't need to worry about that.
