This is my first time on this website. After plenty of research, last night I disassembled my center console in my c5 (base), took the shifter out and put grease onto the rod inside the shifter and around the rubber parts of it. I didnt expect it to work as well as it did.
To preface this, shifting through the gears before this was a little tough, especially putting and securing it into reverse.
if you’re having issues like I was I would completely recommend doing this.
you do not need a bunch of grease, and I used a synthetic brake and caliper grease with temp ratings of -40 to 490f.
In my head I am tempted to put a yt video out on this. Many touch on it but have maybe serviced the shifter two or three times. I've done it an easy two dozen or more between my own cars or for others and while the simple explanation works well I think the right visuals can aid guys in understanding the alignment needs better. Also the differences when various parts are mixed.
