Default Wiper Motor Conundrum

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I’ve discovered the common dilemma where restrictions in the cowl drainage system eventually ruined the wiper motor. I’ve had good success using a warehouse distributor that normally can provide ‘all the parts you will ever need’ until recently. Trying to find a correct replacement is proving to be the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Would there be members who can provide greater insight?

Following image is the OE wiper motor disassembled. The circled elements note the specific casting attributes for a 1999 C5.

The RA part ordered was sourced through their warehouse from supplier doubleyou a eye with part number doubleyou pea em one zero one nine and is shown below, three times no less! (Please excuse the intended obscurity)

I’ve sourced similar parts through a local irish sounding parts store. The part usually arrives missing the same details.

Other retail offerings post an image of what appears to be the correct OE part until a deeper dive reveals inconsistencies in ‘supporting images’.

Is the ‘99 wiper motor an OE anomaly? Or is the same casting used across all years of the C5? This doesn’t seem like it should be that hard to source. (Santa wasn’t able to come through either. )

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions are most welcomed and thank you for your time and consideration.

Not sure what you're asking.
Did the new one not bolt in? Wipers ran backwards?

Hey, @Dads2kconvertible . Please pardon the ambiguity. Never got far enough with replacement motors to find out if they would work. Not sure if the posted images are both visible to all, but I am finding replacement wiper motors that are spec’d for a ‘99 C5 that are missing portions that should be cast into the wiper motor base. A few suppliers are claiming the wiper motor with the missing casting elements are a direct fit for the ‘99. Without the full OE casting attributes, it is difficult to accept these knock-offs as an OEM replacement.

How is it the part that is shown missing these crucial elements are spec’d for a C5 unless perhaps there was a design change after ‘99 that didn’t include the alignment pins, reference tab and tapped mount for the transmission park plate?

I really want to keep replacement parts as true to OE as possible without having to rig some aftermarket knock-off to work in place of an OE wiper motor.

I wish to confirm OE wiper motors for all years of the C5 as being consistently the same. It would be so much nicer if there were more options for parts in this area of the state without driving a couple hours to a Corvette salvage yard.

It also might be my TBI is making it difficult to explain the circumstances but I’m hoping to find some feedback that will get me on the right track.

I would just like to find the correct OE wiper motor replacement. And then, not to sound too picky, not have to mortgage the farm and buy an airline ticket to go fetch same.

Hope that is clearer on paper than it is in my head.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

As an interesting aside, my grandparents lived in Temple for many years and operated a print shop down by the train depot. A little over a year ago, I spent several weeks volunteering in Temple for clean up duties after the ‘24 tornado. Meet a lot of super nice folks and was treated to the best hospitality. Hope you all are enjoying a great holiday season and thanks again for your time and consideration.

I see the parts manual calls for one part number from ‘97 through’02, 12363318. But it appears to have been superseded by 12494759 at some point. I see a couple of Corvette suppliers say they still have N.O.S. units, but at very high prices — and I would insist on a picture of the part number on the part before purchase.
Since you have one (or more) on hand, try the newer part number — or perhaps see if the control board will work in the older motor?

Weellll, maybe this is a better approach...

Problem: Lesser cost replacement wiper motors are termed OEM replacements. Most are not.

Request: Looking for a competent, reliable source for new 1999 C5 OE wiper motor replacement. General purpose knock-offs excluded.

Goal: Inexpensive purchase with reasonable shipping costs.

Sincerely appreciate anyone who can offer a simple solution.

Thank you all for your time and consideration.

Hey, @redzg

Super appreciate your comment! Great information and solid recommendations.

At the risk of ‘too much information’, the OE wiper motor in this ‘99 was underwater in the cowl for an extended period of time. Long enough for the terminal side of a couple resistors on the control board to literally corrode into nothingness. The unit I pulled has Valeo PN 24011103 with 05/25/99 manufacture date. I can’t help but think about just re-ordering the Chi-knee replacement and, if possible, bastardizing parts in hopes of resurrecting the original.

Most definitely working from a saving perspective and not one to squander the billfold butterflies just because.

Your ‘fresh air’ perspective ignites some much needed different ideas and I shall pursue accordingly.

Thank you very much, good sir, and I will update accordingly.

Aftermarket - there is WAI and Cardone - refurbs. I’ve been thru a quite a few motors after udders plugged in OEM and killed it.
One brand is better than the other as far as refurb quality, even without flooding. I can’t remember which one I have now but I think it is Cardone
