Squeaky belt
I had a new compressor put in my 98 C5, last fall. The air works good but I have a squeak, that gets louder when the air is on.
They will be putting on a new belt, any recommendations? Best belt? Thanks.

Have the shop check the pulley alignment.
Dayco makes an alignment and belt tension tester tool, 93874
Small laser on a magnetic bracket that attaches to your pulleys and can find the misaligned pulley.
It helped me discern which pulley needed to be replaced on one of my daughter's vehicles which was causing a squeaky belt.
New compressor, new alternator, new power steering pump w/the original pulley...guess which pulley was tweaked.

Gates kit is what I installed a few years ago, still silent three years later. Comes with belt, tensioner and pulley. Nothing wrong with Dayco stuff I've used over the years as well. I think the Goodyear "Gatorback" brand was bought by Continental.

Coolant and compressor oil will contaminate the pulley's. Always a good idea to clean clean with isopropyl alcohol or something while the belt is off.
