Default 2003 Vette EBCM removal secrets

Bought this Vette in February with 14k original miles. Took a few long cruises where the TCS/ABS lights were on intermittently. The last cruise they stayed on and will not reset. DIC shows under TCS …C1214 H C.

Fuses check good. Decided to remove EBCM for rebuild. Fun times! Question..is there a trick to removing the bottom EBCM screw closest to the radiator? Can’t seem to get any leverage on a tool to remove it. Drain and pull off the power steering reservoir? Any advice would help.

Thanks

I did the same procedure not too long ago with the same error code! Resoldering fixed it!

I think I mainly ended up using lot of extensions off of a star bit to get to the hard to reach ones plus ratchet. it was definitely a pain but doable.I didn't have to take anything apart except the air intake tube.

I did mine two weeks ago. My right arm was all scratched up from the rad cover edge. To get the lower screw closest to the rad, I first got my left hand under the corner to feel the screw head and guided the bit in, with right hand holding the driver. A pain and took about 20 minutes. To quell my frustration I was singing to myself the whole time. lol.

contorting your body and arms will be required. I’m a big dude, with knee replacement surgery coming this summer and somehow I did it. Man my right hip was jammed right up against the hood hinge in order to get my left hand in to guide the driver onto the screws. Legs off the ground at some points, laying on the fender. Wear soft clothes to protect your paint! No buttons!

have an assortment of of extensions, driver handles, small ratchet etc on the cowl ready to fit each screw. Adjust length as needed.

putting them in is the worst. I thought my mind would explode if I dropped screws trying to guide them in. I found some silicone tube left over from an hvac installation in the house. I cut little nubs off, threaded the screws into them and put all six in the holes of the unit before putting it back in place. The unit flange it thick enough that the tube held them firmly in place. The screws stayed where they belonged. Once pressed firmly against the pump body, I tightened the top right, then the left middle, then the top left… the easiest ones because you can see them. The silicone tube allows the screws to turn and stays there in the flange. Then left hand to feel the rest of the screws, right holding the tool. It was a real pain but still satisfying when finished.

begin by knowing you’ll be frustrated by each screw and do what you need to stay calm!!

I did mine last year and then it was much easier by putting it up on the quickjacks and working from underneath minimal problems that way
