Last weekend (when we had decent weather here in Texas) I took the car out for a little run. I first drove on surface (local) streets. Incurred a lot of this exhaust ‘popping’, specifically when shifting between 1-2, 2-3. Made me some what uneasy, not to mention self conscious.
I accelerated onto the freeway (hope the law is not reading this) with a lot of WOT. Ran about 3 miles, then exited.
When I was again on the surface streets the exhaust ‘popping’ was much, much less noticeable.
When the engine/exhaust are cold, you can get major popping and even afterfire (loud kaboom: with no cats flames too). This is common. If it bothers you, don't lift on decel such that engine revs load up the car when cold (use the brakes to slow down while in a higher gear). Given all of your mods, this sounds normal. For peace of mind, show or describe the behavior to your tuner.
It is my belief if it is not simply cold air rushing in on decel then the other reason it could possibly pop/backfire is simply the car is cold and running rich.
... pop like cray on decel. It was music to my ears.
I love that sound too. The sound of horsepower.
I love it too! We need to form a support group for this! But... isn't this the sound a lot of people call the "motorboat" sound that they try to eliminate with an X-pipe?

Naw, the motorboat idle is very much related to using Corsa exhausts.
The popping is pretty apparent on the six-speed vs. the A4 while slowing down in gear. Push in the clutch or keep the revs low and you can pretty much get rid of it. Personally I like the popping but put a Magnaflow Xpipe in front of my Stingers to take some of the crispiness out of it. Now it's more like muffled explosions.
