Hello. I've been thinking of starting a mobile dyno tune service as their a real need in our area accross two states, and I can tune our club's LS1 cars :D Anyhow, Mustang makes a mobile ready unit at a fair price. They state it has variable load, and that the Dynojet is inertia only, just WOT romps. Why would that be better?
I feel that Dynojet is more popular. Why is that, does any know the pro's and cons of both or has dyno'ed their vette on both? Thanks!!
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
Placing a load on the engine while tuning is important while tuning, especially for forced induction cars and part throttle tuning. A dynojet, although a good tool (I use it for our tuning) does not provide the same load that a car normally sees on the street and thus is best for tuning for max performance at WOT. Turbo cars sometimes even have problems making full boost on a dynojet. By placing varying loads on an engine at different RPM's you can more accurately similate driving conditions and thus tune in part throttle performance, aka ltrims.

He nailed it....IMO - Mustang dyno's will show you LOWER #'s since it does in fact put a load (variable at that too!) on your car. Where as a dynojet - you "just spinning the rollers" - a mustang is the real way to tune your car - esp under boost.
The mustang dyno can simulate the street...i.e. a dynojet presents no load - so your A/F isn't the same when you go from dynojet to street...maybe very close..but.....

Thanks LG, I wouldn't want to spend more then the cost of a new vette for a unit when everyone preffers the other units. Anymore input on others and those that have ran on both would be great!
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
So are you guys saying it would be ok to go with the mustang? Why is it so many go with the Dynojet and that it so popular with tuners, users and being the offical dyno of NASCAR :P
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
My son installed a Mustang one year ago & is very happy with it. Like the others have already stated the mustang loads the car & provides more accurate #s. The Dynojet produces higher #'s (about 15%) , thats why people like them. We felt the Mustangs #'s provided the car owner the information he wanted as opposed to an ego trip, just my .02 cents worth.

Just a couple of points here: The Dynojet DOES test your car under a load, if it didn't your RPM's would spike like they do when you rev the ingine in neutral. The load used "simulates" a 3.600 pound vehicle being accelerated.
The dynojet also has a variable load module available, it's just that most dyno operators either don't purchase it, or don't use it. Most of us just get WOT dyno data and tune part throttle on the street.

Thanks for all the info, though some of it is conflicting. I guess my reay question is, if you have a mustang dyno near by, whould the fact its a mustang and not a dyno jet make you think twice?
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
From actual experience on both dyno's on the same day within 1 hour timeframe. The dynojet reads 5% higher than a mustang dyno, not he 15% that some suggest.
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
lemme say this:
I had mine on a mustang dyno and pulled a stout 341rwtq, a number I never used when talking about my car as one 2 separate dynojets on three different pulls, it laid down 316, 316 and 325 :D
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (Mean Green 2000)
It sounds like the Mustang dyno has a variable weight that needs to be programmed in when they dyno a car. So, if the person dyno tuning the car doesn't set the appropriate weight what impact would that have on the dyno #'s?
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (hogurt)
Forget about rollers...look into dynopak :yesnod: . This is what F1 teams use! It is a chasis dyno and it is easier to transport than the rollers. http://www.dynopak.com My buddy bought a 4wd version for his tuning shop in Ct. Good luck with your decision.
Re: Dyno, Mustang or Dynojet!? Input needed! (TexCorvette)
Hi,
From the standpoint of a simple WOT run, the Dynojet 248 is more repeatable BECAUSE it is just an inertia dyno. When you go to a Mustang dyno, the operator makes decisions on how to load the engine during the run. This can lead to the confusion you just saw in this thread. There are no decisions to make with a pure inertia dyno and if you compare runs between inertia dynos (of the same inertia) the answers are very consistent. I think this is why the Dynojet is so popular. Of course you can program the Mustang to do a run just like an inertia 248 if you are interested. You would match the acceleration rates.

Good info here since I dyno'd last year on a Mustang and my 99 MN6 with Blackwing and Corsa Indy's came in at 292, 293 and 292 over a 5 hour period when we held a dyno day for our club. Others that had dyno'd their cars on other dyno's complained that their numbers on the Mustang were MUCH LOWER. One guy in fact had dyno'd some where at 321, the Mustang showed 302. That's a huge difference. We are going back to the same Dyno next month to have LS1 Edit Dyno Tuning done to our cars. I figure if I see 310 to 315 on that dyno with my car I will be a very happy camper.
But like has been said before "if you don't like your dyno numbers - find another dyno".
