Clutch Noise Question
Can someone tell me if your 6 speed car has this problem. When the car is running with the clutch out and you turn the car off it makes a rattling sound. If you turn the car off with the clutch pressed in, it sounds normal.
What could be the problem? The car has 16,000 miles on it and under warranty until 9/03
Corvette Ed. Watch your video that came with the car. They tell you about this known design feature. Nothing to be alarmed about. Sounds like you have the same rear transmission that the rest of us do. It makes the same kind of sound if you let out on the clutch at too low of an RPM.
All my 6 speed Vettes did this. It's not nearly as annoying though as listening to the clutch rattle while letting the car idle with the clutch pedal not pressed.

That is what my car does. It rattles at idle with the pedal not in. It just sounds bad, I had someone riding in the car ask me what is that noise. I said can you believe GM thinks this is normal?
I guess there is no fix for this unless you replace the clutch!!!!!!
The noise is gear rattle in the trans...With the clutch out,the drive shaft and mainshaft in the trans are rotating even though you are not moving. With the clutch in,it isnt...That is also why you get a pop noise when releasing the clutch when standing still, because you are quickly engaging the drive shaft and main shaft. :yesnod:
