First off, don't use the template. The easiest way to do this is to install the filter on the MAF through the opening in the box. Place the box where you want it and mark where the holes are. Then remove the box, drill the holes, and cut inside the holes. It's a whole lot easier and will allow you to line up the box where it should be.

anyone know how much the piece you cut into costs new? in case i ever wanted to go back to stock.

As I recall, they run somewhere in the neighborhood of $30.
