Default Does anyone in here run shorties?

I have a chance to get really good deal on a set, (Only 200 dollars on a chrome set) I dont have the money for Long tubes yet and figure for the little money that these cost its not much of a loss. Are shorties better than my stock LS1 heads now? Will I see any HP increase at all? They are made by Elderblock(sp) to fit any LS1

You will get little if any hp gains with the shorties. I say save your money for the long tubes if you want headers.

:iagree: Shorties are synonymous with "Wedgies". They ride up your butt and don't even give you a thrill.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Save up for the longs if you plan on modding this engine at all in the future. The shorties will always be limiting your gains.

I dont care if they are free, I would not spend the install time on them.. Save for the long tubes. :seeya :seeya

Hi, I have shorties. Install is very/ very easy. There is an improvement in the tone of the exhaust. In "smog law" California the set of shorties I have are smog legal. Horsepower increase....I do not know.

There is an improvement in the sound.
The shorties do not give any increase in low end torque as the long tubes claim.
They do improve flow at higher RPM over stock manifolds.

WARNING!! Not all LS1's are in Corvettes. You might want to confirm that the headers WILL fit on the C5 before you buy them. You may find the Vette has different clearance issues then the f-bodies.

I have just purchased my first vett and long tube headers are going in soon. From the people I have spoke with it wouldseem foolish to pay for installation of shorties when the long tube is the obvious choice by 90% or more of the people on this subject. The only way it would be feaseable is if you do the install yourself and can sell the later when you can afford the long tubes. Even this scenario requires a lot of labor on your part.

Shorties won't be as good as a LT setup...but if you eliminate the pre-cats
I think you will find gains better than the 10-12 hp. IMHO if you can get
shorties for a vette for $200, get 'em. It only cost me $190 to have the
dealer install mine (2 hrs per side book time) SOTP tells me I picked up
more than 10 hp, without pre-cats though :D
