I recently did the pcv mod where you add a small inline filter in the pcv line. After driving about 25 miles i noticed about 3/8 inch of liquid inside. I've seen pictures here on the forum of oil inside and i know that's the purpose of the fillter. My liquid is like cloudy water, not dark at all, just a slight brown tint. I smelled it and then poured it out on the driveway. It had a little gas/oil smell but seemed to consist mostly of water w/ a little gas/oil. Idrove the car about 150 miles yesterday w/ the same results. This is with normal driving and no heavy accleration. What can this be and possible cause? Car is working great w/ no problems. Thanks in advance. Your comments and thoughts are appreciated.
I have heard of members getting water/oil....never gas...are you sure you arent mistaking the oil for gas? Supposedly the water/condesation isnt out of the ordinary! I have oil had pure oil in mine......
I live in Northern Illinois and on cold days mine fogs up then as the engine warms up I get condensation which when combined with the oil vapor looks milky brown - I think its normal for the colder climates - in the fall I only got a little oil, no condensation.
From what I've read and seen, I don't think you have a problem. In cold weather you will get more condensation than normal. This is one of the best Mod's that I have done, especially for the price. I've put over a thousand miles on my car since the installation. There is about 1/4 of an inch in the bottom of my filter. I would much rather see it there than having it go through my intake manifold. There was a question as to wheather or not you get more oil during cruising, or making those WOT blasts. Any thoughts ????
Hi guys, I appreciate all the comments. I guess condensation is probably the answer. I feel much better now. The 150 miles was highway miles, around 60 mph. The weather was cold w/ a few sprinkles. Sounds like the filter is doing its job. Thanks again.
Not to worry. I did my own heads/cam job and I installed the PCV filter as part of the mods, and I was getting the same thing.... looked almost like chocolate milk, but it smelled like gas w/ a little oil. I agree w/ the others that its condensation and nothing to be worried about. Just be glad you are catching it instead of returning it back to your combustion chambers.
Yup same here. Kinda milky looking which is characteristic of an oil/water mix. I also use a FRAM plastic fuel filter as a final filter before the air goes into my pcv valve.
