Anybody know of a problem with using 245/40ZR17’s and 275/35ZR18’s on a 99 vert.

Thanks

The question was “Is there a problem with using 245/40ZR17’s and 275/35ZR18’s on a 99 vert. After 30 views and no responses I figured the question was to hard, so I took it off. But since you asked I'll put it back!

Thanks for the reply!

Since those sizes are not so far off from stock... you'll have no probs... :D But I gotta ask... why not go bigger

I have the Nitto 555 Extreme 255/40/ZR17's in front and 285/35/ZR18's in rear on stock size OEM Y2K wheels. Fit and look great with no clearance problems. Adjust for the overall height difference with a Hypertech PP3. (approx .61" in front, .65" in rear)

Compared to the OEM size 245/45-17 front and 275/40-18 rear, your new ones will be smaller, regarding Miata tire size caculator 3.8% too small in front and 4.1 % too small in rear. That´s the math. I do not know if other parts beside odometer (speedgauge) will be influenced.
Hope this helps a bit

Frederik, what is that Miata tire size calculator you mentioned. I know the sidewall is smaller but will this also effect the width

:iagree: Tires do look great  Thanks for the info on the height difference, I never thought of that. I have a Hypertech PP3 which I haven’t used yet. I'll be sure to use your data when everything goes on. :hurray:

The sidewall will be too small IMO. I would say no :)

Go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
There you can compare two tires in diameter/circumdingsbums?
This has nothing to do with width, OK? But part of the complete diameter of a wheel is a percentage of the width. i.e. 275/40 means hight of the rubber/tire itself is 40% of 275 (width)
Sorry if I was too complicated. If any question, please ask.
