Good morning, I was driving my wife's 98 C5 this morning, and I noticed the analog oil press gauge at 80psi, so I checked the digital gauge, and it said 129psi. The car runs great, so I guess it's a sending unit or sensor. Any advice, and where is the problem located?
I was told that the sending unit is located under the intake manifold. I went by the Chevy Dealership, and the part is priced at $50. I need to get mine replaced too. Anyone change this by themselves before? Maybe we could get a write up?
In the back, driver's side under the intake manifold. Since I've had my manifold off so many times  I think it's easy but may not be to someone who's never done it. Go to jmX's web site at http://www.ls1howto.com/ and use his instructions to take the manifold off if you want to do it yourself.

Re: Oil Pressure 129psi? (vjlax18)
Since you have to take the intake manifold off anywho....you might what to look into a LS6 intake manifold. From reading previous Post...it seems like a good Mod. Let us know how you make out.
Been there too...from what I've heard it's under and just rear of the intake manifold...as long as the car's running normal and the oil temps aren't higher than normal it's probably the sending unit...just take it in as soon as possible. (I waited about two months before taking mine in, some around here have had it like that for over a year with no issues...)
I had the same problem. turned out to be the oil pressure sensor. The intake had to come off to replace the sensor, so I replaced the manifold with the LS6 unit during the process and picked up 7 RWHP.
Same problem on my 98, got the sending unit for 38 dollars and changed it myself. yes you have to remove the intake and its not that hard to do yourself. :steering:
I have a 98 also and changed my pressure sensor a month ago for the same reason. Took me about 2 hours to take manifold off since it was my first time. I also replaced the intake gaskets and cleaned the throttle body since everything was apart. Torque wrench, 10 mm and 8 mm sockets needed to do job. No need to disconnect the fuel rail. Just pop it out and fold it back gently. :steering:
