Default LS1 Questions...

With LS1 engines, what sort of standard SBC parts can you use? Will normal rockers work? What about anything else?

There isnt much of anything thats gonna work. Some older style rockers might work but you'll need to find metric bolts that work with those as everything is metric threads now. I think LT1's and LS1's use nearly the same lifters.

So, in short, nothing of much use is easily able to be fitted from an SBC onto an LS1.

Too bad...so to put different rockers on I'd HAVE to use the very very $$$ LS1 rockers? The SBC rockers featured in places such as Summit Racing are only about $200 as opposed to the LS1 advertised rockers which go for $1000.

Also, what about headers? LS1 specific only will work?

Be careful of rockers on an LS1. I'm certainly no expert, but I know that the 1.8+'s a lot of vendors sell will not work with almost all aftermarket cams (to much lift). The rockers (1.7) that are out there are the shaft mount Jesel's at ~$700, T&D Shaft mounts ~$800, or the new Yella Terra's ~500 (these are paired on shafts). The Yella Terra's look like a good choice and do not require any modification to the valve covers (T&D and Jesel's do). Frankly the LS1's have pretty good rockers to begin with so I'm still on the fence as to whether or not this is even a worthwile mod.

You can buy LS1 rockers here(Parts section) used for a fraction of that. Extremely durable. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :steering:

What then would be the best modifications to an LS1 to bring it up closer to LS6 performance? Anything for under $2k? Where are you guys finding the largest HP increases for the buck?

Cam, valve springs, and an aftermarket air filter should put you around the same power as a stock Z06 (depending on the cam). For example a Blackwing air filter is about ~$275, a Thunder Racing cam kit (227/224 seems to be popular) with titanium retainers would run about ~$800. The filter will net around ~15rwhp and the cam should be around ~30rwhp (the cam may easily net more, best to be conservative). Tuning will probably net a bit more, but I'm not sure what the going rate is (~$300?). You could add a set of TPIS headers for around $900, which would net an additional 15-20rwhp. So looking at baseline LS1 with around 300rwhp you would be about 345rwhp with the cam and air filter ($1100) and about 360rwhp with the long tube headers ($2000). Tuning may net another 5-15rwhp. A stock Z06 is around 360rwhp from what I have seen around the forum. Keep in mind these are estimates and your car may baseline higher or lower than 300rwhp I'm figuring in (some cars are in the 310-320 range).
