What are the performance differences between having the traction control off, on, or with the competitive handling on? I've been playing with these three and I don't care much for the traction control being off because the rear end spins out too easily. On the other hand I really like the feel of the competitve handling being on. Does it hurt to drive with it on all the time or should it be saved only for special events?
Re: Traction Control And Competitive Handling (phrankw)
PHRANKW,
TC/AH off is dangerous unless you're a very very good driver. In the off condition the driver has complete control over the car and I've seen more than one post with a C5 twisted and bent due to the TC/AH being off.
TC/AH on is just the opposite - the car and computer takes care of the handling for you, best all around mode IMHO.
Comp mode you kind of get a 1/2 and 1/2. AH is on, very important, and
TC is off. This will let the driver have complete control with the gas pedal, slip, spin, burnouts and still let the car control the handling (very good on the track).
No it does not hurt to drive with comp mode on all the time. In fact there is even a little toy from one of our vendors that puts the car directly in comp mode from start-up.

Only if you have a 2001 or later model. Competition mode in 2000 and previous years pulls back the traction control, but doesn't disable it completely.

I have not heard this information before. What is the source of this information?
My understanding was that they reporgramed the AH and also removed the requirement that you be stopped to engage competitive mode. I did not hear about a change in the characteristics of CM being changed other than the engagement.
I ask as to the source of your information because I have never noticed any hint of TC when in competitive mode. However I have not had a chance to really get into it (in a safe off road environment) with the car in CM yet, so I am not sure.

Thanks!!!
:iagree: When TC/AH is on I can feel the effect of TC, when in CM I can't notice any effect from TC.

More specifically, it only affects A4s with the first generation of AH/TC and the loss of power when launching is due to torque management. The second generation of AH/TC (found in 2001 and later Corvettes) handles things differently.
