Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (Garceeya)
Yeah, just ordered my 402/6130 setup yesterday.
Did the research, called RAM, called some others. I'm not made out of money. It goes in in 2 weeks, can't wait.
Thanks Levi aka C5Noir
Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (ElanMike)
Here is the setup that I just bought, and the part numbers(for most)
Bought from summit racing-
$149.00 1 x PN RAM 6310 the 6000 series friction disc 26 spline 1 5/32 input shaft
$179.00 1 x PN RAM 402 the competition pressure plate (3000lbs clamping force I think)
$14.99 1 x Moroso roller Pilot Bearing
Bought from Thunder Racing
$359.00 1 x Fidanza Aluminum flywheel with steel insert
$300.00 1 x Mcleod adjustable master cylinder
Bought from Ken Fitchner Chevy
$92.11 1 x Z06 clutch actuator(slave cylinder)
------------
$1094.11
This kinda hurts, but at least $400 of my cost is in hydraulic parts. Damn clutch sticks to the floor and I am going to fix that!!!
Could have gone with some of the other master cylinders Ram ~$166, and a few others between 110.00 and 195. But these are all the same stock units with adjustment built in.
Talked to a few sources including RAM, and decided on the Mcleod unit.
Plus, from here on out clutch changes are ~$300 in parts.
Stock Z06 clutch with flywheel is $375.
Stock? what's stock??
Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (brent eb02)
I had a Z06 clutch put in with my heads and cam package and I regret it BIG TIME. That clutch was slipping hard after only 6 months. (performance numbers in sig below)
I now have the McLeod dual-disk and I couldn't be happier. This thing rules and I have no issues with it at all even though my car is a daily driver (in fact, it is my only car). I can't believe that people complain that such a clutch would not be livable in a daily driven car. I can only surmise that either they haven't ever tried the clutch and are perpetuating rumors. OR they are just big wusses??
If only I could go back and tell myself last year to get the McLeod dual disk then and save the time and money of doing the clutch twice!!
Don't get the Z06 clutch but do a get clutch that your tuner is comfortable with. MTI does all my work and they like the McLeod and stand by it which is why I went with McLeod.
Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (ElanMike)
If you are going to put sticky tires and drag race the car then the z06 wont hold, but if you are only going to play on the streets then I say go for the z06 clutch a 100%%%%% :yesnod: BTW this clutch is rated from GM for up 500lbs of tq (flywheel). Btw I had this on my Vette with 425rwhp and 4.10 gears and it held just fine on the street :smash:
Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (Moundir)
I'm running a Spec Star Stage II, with an aluminum flywheel, clamps hard, easy, like stock engagement, no chatter. Works fine at this power level. Just make sure you get then newest GM slave and master cylinders to eliminate "sticky clutch" syndrome.
Re: Need clutch recommendation for 400RWHP (ElanMike)
Just being picky:.....
Clutches hold based on TQ (not HP)
HP burns clutches up by: A) transmitting power while in the friction zone, B) breaking the TQ limit while clamped and the transmitting power while the disk is slipping.
