Need them for drag racing..but also this car is my only car....after research i have found that 3.73 and 3000 stall..are the best is this true
do you guys agree and why please.....Finally if i spin tires now wouldnot getting TC make it even worst.....???
Please help i am doing both by the end of this moth..need to buy them in advance...thanx
SY3500 and 3.73's are known to be a great combo, I'm happy with it.
If I were to do it over again though, I'd probaby go with a SS3800, SY4000, or ST4000.
your post is confusing,NEED THEM FOR DRAG RACEING, but it"s my everyday car!!! {what a conflict}I"m useing a sy4200 with a 373 S/C motor and love em,If I had to drive it everyday the converter would DEFINATELY have to be tighter,in stop and go driveing your always up in rpm,BUT if you want brutal results, get the loosest converter you can stand, but I wouldn"t want to drive it everyday, the sy3500 seems to be a popular choice, another ? are you spraying the motor? s/c ? or n/a? these would also factor into a converter decision.you realy need to decide what your expecting ,what you can live with ,and don"t look back and think I SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT! hope this helps :seeya steve
Well i want something that would give me the max power with out loosing drivebility....And i well stay na all the way.....I care more about everyday driving than dragracing......Please help
Since you have an A4, and this is your only car, I would recommend the 3.42 gears and SY3500. This IMHO provides the best for both daily driver and occasional drag strip. Makes sure you get a tranny cooler and a Transgo would be a wise investment!
I have an A4 and am getting the FLP level 4 trans in about a week. I was going to get 3.73's and the SY3500. I decided against this since I can't hook up as it is with the supercharger kicking in at about 3000rpm. I have 3.42's and a Yank3000 on the way.
Mine is not a daily driver but my wife and I take it out to club drive-outs and long trips. It also goes to the track occasionally.
Since this is your only car and traction is already an issue, I would recommend 3.42's and either a Y3000 or SY3500. 3.73's with a SY3500 or higher would be a hot street/strip setup. But, you will also be reving much higher in town from light to light as well as on the highway. Plus you will need some serious tires. Lot's of tradeoffs.

I don't know where people get this from. Around town I hardly noticed a difference going from 3.15's to 3.73's. But on the parkway you will notice a difference. As long as you don't regularly cruise at 75-80 you'll be ok with 3.73's on the parkway. If I could do it over again, I would have gone with 3.90's.

:iagree:
I have had 3.15s, 3.42s and now 3.73s, driving normally in the city you will not notice much of a difference between 3.73s and 3.42 or 3.15s.
I've been recommended the ProTorque 2800 and 3.42's. I think the ProTorque is about $700, gears are a grand. So i'm looking at 2K with installation. Closer to 3K with the transgo and cooler installed. So i'm, pretty interested in this thread also.
Thanx guys......I asked some tuners and they suggested 2800 stall with the 3.42 nothing bigger?????
I am lost now........!!!!!!!!!
That's a great combo!!:yesnod: I had it for over a year and it's will serve you well if your not thinking heads and cam down the road...Good choice! Got me into the 12's :D
From: My barber didn't know when to quit... Do you?

Transgo is like $120 and 200 for install and tranny cooler is $50 plus free install. Shouldn't be $1000 more for those 2 things.
Get a stout SS3600 with a 2.5 STR and run 18" Nitto DR's (when they come out) on the rear at all times and regular Nittos on the front. I am just being silly of course    , but I am just stupid enough to do this mod myself. I am plannign on ordering next week and it is between the SY3500 and the SS3600 with my upgrade to 3.42's.
For the street the SY3500 and 3.42's is a proven winner. I just want to go on the wild side  so I never have to look back and can grow into the TC and be happy with my decision for a long time to come. My car isn't a daily driver so that plays into my decision of the more aggresive converter and my ability to get away with runnign DR's on the rears all the time.
My buddy does this (3.423's and SY3500) and has no problems at all. The DR's are soft and do pick up rocks easy, so that is one bad aspect as pebbles and rocks can get flung onto your car. I am pretty picky as it is about my car so flinging rock part might really get to me, but I am sure I will adjust :yesnod:  Just drive around the gravel !:smash:
