Here's the deal. I was getting on it and basically shifted too hard between 3rd and 4th. It now sticks in 4th and sometimes "kicks out" of 3rd. I'm now shifting 1, 2, 5, 6 and avoiding the 3/4 gate all together. I have a Hurst shifter without the stops installed.
1. What did I break?
2. Other than the obvious of taking her to the dealer, is there anything I can do to fix her?
You killed the 3rd gear synchro and most likely have bent the 3/4 shift fork. There is a beefed up T56 on EBAY that has Viper internals including a steel 3/4 fork. Look in the parts for sale C5 section there is a link.
I just bought and installed one of those transmissions from EBay and it is GREAT! I love the new ratios of the MN12 and the service and quality of work were outstanding.
