I just pulled the car out of the garage. The battery was completely dead so I charged it up. I backed it out and as soon as I placed it in drive it died. The car only sat for about 3 months and I started it at least once during that time. Now the car idles and revs normal but as soon as I place in drive or reverse it dies after moving about 10 feet. I'm going to go check to see if I'm getting any codes. No check engine light either. So if anyone could help me I would be indebted to you.
Thanks in advance,
Mike :banghead:
Check to see if your battery is swelled on the sides. You'll see it. I'll be slightly pushed out on the sides. If so, the battery is shot and all the charging in the world won't help it. I'd bet that's what it is. :yesnod:
It could also be that you're not letting it charge long enough. Keep it in park and let it idle for about 10 minutes. Keep giving it gas once in a while to get a better charge from the alternator. Just letting a car idle will not charge the battery properly.
Sounds like the security system may be activating. I think I had to pull the fuse(s) for the security system to get it to reset. Once activated, the car will run, but dies if you try to move it.
Well I've let the car run for about 30 minutes. Jumped back in it and same damn thing. :nonod: I took the battery out and found it to be leaking at the battery + terminal. I'm going to replace the battery with the one in my truck and pull the fuse the alarm system. I also check the codes and there where no current code coming up. I'll keep you guys posted and keep them sugestions coming...I feel I'm getting close to being able to drive it.
Well I've rplaced the battery and still no luck. Car still starts and runs fine but as soon as I put it in gear... :U it dies? What fuse # would I pull to disable the alarm?
TTT -anyone have an idea to help? I would have thought taking the battery out would have reset the security system. It is definatly NOT battery being dead causing it to die, as long as the car is charging it will run.
Mike i see you even changed batteries, when you say it dies, does it cut off instantly or sort of sputter down to its death? My thought is if it shuts off like someone turned the key off battery acid may have leaked down into the computer (I think this is a noted problem). Are you able to keep the car running in gear by hitting the gas a little? Is it dying under no load .. just going into gear or is it as soon as you hit the gas while in gear?> Are you sure no codes are showing up?
Nat
I got it going!!!! Thanks for the help. I let it set awhile and took the key out. As soon as I put it in drive... it stayed running :seeya
Thanks again
