I only have money for one of them....I know that if i do them together i well save on labor....But i can only get enough money for both in like 5 months, and i did not wana wait that long...So which one would you rather have a 3.42 gears, or a 2800 stall TC....And please tell me why......
The TC will give you a much faster car without a gear change buy getting you into you Tq faster BUT it will also hurt engine braking and drivability in traffic a little (I don't imagine fuel economy is an issue here)
Gears also bring you to your Tq faster ,as you know, but the converter will allow the motor to get to Tq faster because unlike the gears it doesn't rely on the car to be moving it just spins up and lets the car go at a specific flash point or stall.
I would get a 3000+ stall TC, much bigger gain then gears alone. ...Face
:iagree: Also install the Transgo shift kit . Only $100 for the kit and about $160 for the install by a competant trans tech...Now that combo will make you smile....I promise!!:smash: :D
another suggestion...check-out the parts F/S. Guys are always selling good low mileage used parts that have not been abused (its called mod-fever). You could probably pick-up a converter and 3:42 gears for under $1000.
Thanx guys for the help.....and yes i need something that would help me in the street, i rarly go to the track...BUT I am looking for faster takeoff..i do not care much about speed...i just wana do that 1/4 mile in the street faster..thanx again
So, what i have understod is that if i keep the 3.15 i should get the 3000 yank, but if i get the 3.42 i should get the 2800 stall rigtht....It's a daily driver...Thanx guys
I used to have a 3200 with 3.15:1 gears that was a good combo. I have changed to a 3800 with 3.90:1 gears and I totally love it. With the steeper gears, the converter does not seem as loose as the 3200. Now once the conveter engages, all I can say hold onto your hat :)
That's really a tough spot if you're only going to do one.
I went from the stock 2.73's to the 3.42's and the SY3500
plus a TransGo shift kit and a PCM re-load via PLII and the
difference in the car is nite and day.
The convertor really does wake up the C5 :yesnod:
Thanx guys....do you think i can shave about .5 second of my 1/4 mile time with the 3.42 and 2800 stall??????Maybe... which 2800 stall converter? You could even go with a 3500 stall with 3.42's and it'll feel tight.
