Okay, I finally got these headers installed. It took 2-1/2 weeks of every night plus 2 weekends but I'm done. All but two days were spent on the passenger side header. The construction and fit of the headers is excellent. The installation is a daunting and laborious task that should be enlightened for others after I send T Byrne and SLP my installation photos and recommended revisions for installation.
I will know how well the headers perform next week as I'm too busy to run the car this weekend.
I have contacted Tom at T Byrne and Tracy at SLP and they have both expressed interest in my feedback so they can improve the installation process and instructions for others.
Briefly, you have a lot of tight wiring harness work and disassembly / reassembly work to do on the passenger side. The driver's side is fairly painless to do. Unfortunately, the SLP instructions do not adequately cover the actual tasks necessary for a 1st time SLP header installer - me for example. My notes and photos will also be posted to this FORUM in the Tech section next week for everyone's reference and use as needed.
On a final note, EVERYONE should look at their passenger side wiring harness feeding the starter and flywheel position sensor. Mine was stock OEM and all looming and wiring insulation on both harnesses burned through to the bare wire due to factory installation being up against the OEM exhaust manifold. If the flywheel sensor lead goes, you do not go! If the starter lead goes (3 wires) you will either stop dead or not have the ability to crank the starter. Do yourself a favor and check these harnesses - even on your stock car.
Brings back memories....I had SLP headers on my Transam and they were a tight fit on passenger side. They would burn through wires weekly and nobody could repair them or align wires to keep out of the heat.
Finally Tracy stepped up to the plate and Jet Coated them for free, but I needed to pay for shipping and uninstall and install after coating. It worked, and the car ran great until sold. Kudos for Tracy and SLP, I believe they care and will use your advice ....
As for TBryne....well I will keep those thoughts to myself.

SAVE THE WAVE :seeya
Good "poop for the troops" regarding the wiring harness. PM's are WAY better than CM's. :yesnod:

  Thanks for the heads up....that might be that burning smell I keep smelling (smells like burning plastic).
Here is to your stick to it attitude. I had the TTS headers.
Passenger side was and is a total nightmare. I still have a dip stick tube leaking issue. :D
I just started putting these on my buddys 2000. I have about 3 hrs in to it so far, and have both headers loosly bolted in. I have to unbolt the pass side though to move the heat wrap. They tell you to put it on the factory position sensor wires not the extention piece they give you. But after positioning the wires the extention piece it touching that wild rear tube. So far I don't tink they are too much harder than putting equal lenght headers on a 98 mustang cobra :D (not fun!) How good is the heat wrap they give you? I also made sure the extention piece is wired right unlike the one Chris got
Don't let the orange heat wrap sheilding that SLP provides touch the header or it will burn through. It is not heat resistant, only an insulator for protecting the wiring harnesses from the heat coming off the header now that the OEM heat shields are gone.
I can give you a lot of tips and photos that are not in the SLP instructions. The driver's side is a breeze. The passenger side is a MAJOR PITA :smash: :smash: because of all the wiring harness prep work you need to do.

Let me know if I can be of help.
Should be about two weeks before I find the time. Any tips or tricks are certainly appreciated. Thanks Bob
