Lose HP/Torque from LT Headers!!!!????
It's been about a week since my TPIS LT header install. Although, I have not driven much since then, I definitely sense that I have lost quite a bit of low end torque. I can't even lay rubber!!!! Before, I was able to burn the rubber up any any speeds below 40mph. However, the motor does seem to rev quicker to redline and there "appears" to be more HP at higher RPM but I am not going to do full throttle runs at each stop light. Needless to say, I am very very disapointed with my TPIS LT.
Just to recap:
My mods to date:
Vortex, Corsa Indy, Powerloader, LS6 intake on 2000 A4 3.15
Plus:
Nice WOT exhaust tone
Minus:
Loss of low end torque, more KR than before (just a guess), no poping noise
To do's:
Check all welds to make sure no leaks, replace plug wires - my disptick installer was drunk and tore one of my stock plugs so I had to replace it with O'Reily cheapo plugs :jester
If anyone had a similar experience, please feel free to chime in... I am so bummed :rant:

It sounds like you might need to get your car tuned. Your car could now be running way too rich or too lean after your header installation.

Try an LS1 edit and things will be just fine!All of the supposed lost power will come back and more.Also,how many miles have you put on it since the install?Computer takes awhile to learn new mods.

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping chaning the plug wires may help - hopefully I was firing only 7 cylinders... I really don't want to reprogram b/c I would lose the TTS program (freaking $500! down the drain). Then again, I want my car to run right. Arggh, the frustration. Be on the look out for a nearly new TPIS headers for sale soon...

I am headed in on Monday for LT Headers and would like to know how long one should wait to see if computer adjusts? Will I need tuning no matter what? If I do need the tuning, should I drive a certain number of miles before I make appointment for the tunning? I appreciate the advice in advance. Took the vette out of storage today :party:

sounds like you just need to get rid of the powerloader and get a quality ls1edit tune. the guys at MC Racing supposedly have mad ls1edit skills now.
well, i'm sure you bought him cheap beer. next time, buy him the good imported stuff. ;)

good point - that cheap st Joe beer and 3am breakfast at Danny's probably gave him diareah during installation...
I have to reflash the pcm before we can do any work with LS1 - $500 ready to go down the drain...

Any codes set???
Check the basics....Make sure the intake swap is not leaking allowing a lean condition.
Sounds like you want to look at all your plugs, wires, and any wire looms around the header install. Make sure all o2 are in good & tight and MAKE SURE THE GROUND WIRES are installed!
Codes only set when a sensor picks up a problem, mechanical issues don't always set a code.
I have the same basic mods (Vortex, FLP, B&B & PLII) and can't keep from laying rubber even with TC on :thumbs: :cheers:

I thought when you free up your exhaust you change your power band up a bit higher and would loose some low end torque. Maybe the ol butt meter is just out of whack but the track times will show true results.

I am pretty darn sure my butt meter is accurate but I am getting the car dyno'ed next week just to be sure... I don't drive WOT on a daily basis so headers actually work against my enjoyment.
