I'd like to have some 4.10 gears installed in my manual transmission
2002 C5. Some questions:
1) How much should this cost, including labor?
2) Assuming the numbers on chevy's web site are accurate ( 0-60 in
4.6 seconds, 175 mph top speed), what do you think the new numbers
would be after 4.10 gears?
3) Any shops recommended in the DC area to perform this?
I paid $1600 at A&A Corvettes but Andy is in SoCal. I don't know about the reduction in 0-60 speed but it will certainly give you more "virtual" power and torque, though lowering the top end in most gears. On the other hand, it makes 5th much more useable and I think someone said that they got it to 188 mph with 4.10's. I really like mine.
It will void the warranty for the rearend and any other part that they consider was a result of the installation of the new gears. That's just a call you'll have to make. I had the rearend worked on twice under warranty for leaking seals.
The computer doesn't have to be reprogrammed, nor does the speedometer have to be adjusted.
Good luck. If you get them, you'll probably really like them! :D
I had my 3.90's put in by ECS and I am very happy with the gears and how they were put in. I will be going back for more mods on my vette soon. Thanks, Chris, Doug and Mike!
