Well I did it!!!!
I lowered my 1999 vert all by myself, ( with a little help from my friends)
Thanks to all the guys that passed on the info I needed to do the job.
I did it the hard way though, jacked up one wheel at a time.
I felt a little more secure that way but the whole job only took me an hour and a half including a beer break.
It was really a piece of cake thanks to you guys. The directions were a little confusing but once you get the front wheel off it becomes very clear what to do and I only cut one finger in the process.
I had no trouble getting the jack out from under the car after the job as it’s one of those really cheep 2 1/2 ton jacks from K-Mart, works ok for me.
The car sat 27 5/8 in the front at the wheel well and 28 5/8 in the back before the job,
and after it went down to 27 in the front and 28 in the rear. Only 5/8 “ but I could see the difference after going out for a ride to settle the car. It showed no difference in measurement before the ride.
I hope it goes down some more as I was looking for and inch all the way round. But it still looks better as then it did.
I have the bolts as far in and out as they will go so if I want it any lower I will have to go the “cut the bushing/ longer bolt” way.
I detected no difference in the ride after the job but the car felt lower and when I went to get out, I could definitely tell the car was lower.
I will send some before and after pics once I figure out how that works.
Thanks again,
G. :auto: :hurray: :steering:
Is the alinement really necessary? How long should I wait?
IMHO, you should wait for at least a week or at least 100 miles before aligning... but as others have posted, it may not be necessary to align if just lowering on stock bolts... I went real low, so I had to align.
Ordinarily I would agree that a cut finger is nothing but in this case I’m on blood thinners so it bled like a stuck pig.
Had to put a very tight band-aid on it to stop the bleeding.
It was worth every drop :steering:
Do you guys experience any tire rub or other negative side effects by lowering your cars?
Not that I can see, I’ve only lowered it as far as the stock bolts would allow so there is still plenty of room above the tire, but it’s low enough that the tire fills up the wheel well very nicely all the way around.
