Don't worry about it Johnny, the rev limiter is there to if anything protect your engine. I am sure if Chris had more time and sleep he could have fixed it. Just bring it by ECS and he will drive it to find out exactly what needs to be done.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything catastrophic. I want go to E-town on Weds. and make a pass. I'll give Chris a call and see of I can stop down next Sat.

Re: Hitting rev limiter (C5JONNY)
THE Fact that your spanking the rev limiter could also be a intial sympton of your tranny slipping and the tranny may be on it lasts leg. I hope not but the A4 tranny is certainly a weak link when you start getting the type of mods you have.

BEst of luck.

Ohhh shoot, I was hitting it this weekend too.
Can you please explain why a slipping tranny can can cause a rev limter bounce?
I was also hitting the rev limiter last week (the 1-2 shift) and some this weekend (LT's were installed 3 weeks ago). My son took care of it by lowering the 1-2 shift mph at the track, but we previously (before the LT install) had not had any problems with the rev limiter. Our mph is slightly lower also, but with the changing track and weather conditions this winter and early spring, we are not sure if this is a problem or just the conditions.

When the transmission is slipping then when you shift the RPM's have a tendency to run away while the clutches try to grab. At full throttle this means hitting the rev limiter. My A4 has become so bad that a full throttle 2-3 shift is only completed if I back off the gas completely :nopity At first the slippage isn't enough to set a P1870 code but in time it will.

:iagree: I could not have said this better myself. As soon as my H/C motor was done 2 years ago Chuck JOhnson at FLP told me that slamming the rev limiter at WOT is the first symptom of the weak stock A4 tranny going. Sure enough, 1/2 hour after getting my car back from H/C install i was spanking the rev limiter at WOT during highway runs and 1/2 hour after that i lost 3rd and 4th gear. The 3/4 clutch pack is the weak link and usually the first to go.
REDGAR:
I have been amazed how long your stock tranny has been holding up with all your drag runs and with the great performance your car has made with just gears and converter and then the cam. I think you are on borrowed time my friend but i hope i am wrong.
