Since my 99 is on recall for the column lock problem, my dealer says they will fix it free. Does the GM fix take care of the problem, or do I need the bypass kit. Your experiences please, thanks Jim.
What exactly is this column lock problem? I've noticed that a significant number of members here have it. Is there a recall on the car for this or is it just a TSB?
I've done about 100 of these and only had one come back with a bad relay. Basically what happens is the old mechanical lock was replaced with an electric version that doesn't al unlock when the relay is energizes thus rendering steering disabled. When the recall is done the automatics no longer use the feature but the manuals still have it with a little rewiring to the BCM and the redesigned ECL.
