Default A couple intake and exaust ?'s

What intake do you guys recommend? A lot of the Dallas guys swear by the Vortex system. What do you guys think is good?

What kind of headers do you guys like? I know the TPIS are good, but the LG headers picked up some considerable power over them, are they worth it? I do want to run with cat's btw (which the LG headers have) and I plan on doing heads/cam and spray, with possibility of a stroker in a few years.

As far as exaust, I was thinking about doing a Borla Stinger exaust or may be something a little quieter and getting dual electric cutouts. What exaust sounds nice and deep?

Thanks for your time,
Dave

DS: as far as exhaust goes, I have read 100's of posts regarding all the various options, and I am convinced of one thing. It is totally objective, and in the "ear of the beholder" as it were? I have had three different systems on my last two C5's, and they all have +'s and -'s. On my current 03 , I tried the Borla Quads and found them to have too much resonance...for me. But I sold them to a local club member for his 01, and they sound great on his car. Much better than they did on mine? (I went with A&A mod and love it!) Both cars are basically stock LS1 C5's, and yet this system had a distinctly different sound and tone on each. I really believe you just have to try a system and see if you like it. The good news is the installation is simple and inexpensive, and you can always sell it if you don't want or like it?

I am trying to decide on an intake myself, but I am again being convinced it is the same deal. For every satisfied Blackwing user, there are equivilent Vortex, Vararam, or other users who love theirs. They all are an improvment over stock, and I believe the difference between any of the popular aftermarket systems is marginal. If you like what you have, then that's the one that's best! Thers' my $0.02 - for what its worth?

i'm pretty new to the mods seen, however i did extesive research on everything i bought. most help obtained by using the search feature on the forum and here are my conclusions:

1. Intake- Blackwing: best materials, safe from hydrolock, used by most tuners namely LPE, factory fit w/ aftermarket look and considerable gains over most.

2. Headers- FLP, Grizzly, LGM, TPIS, Belanger, Lingenfelter all make quality products with relatively similiar gains, usually the big gains are a product of other mods already done, but will add signifigant gains by themselves. FLP, Grizzly require little to no welding and can be converted back to stock if needed, can be installed by owner provided you have a lift. FLP, Grizzly come w/ high flow cats, x-pipe and all connectors required. LGM comes w/ high flow cats and require some welding and cutting. The others are headers alone and will require cutting and welding. for what it is worth i choose FLP and very satisfied.

3. Exhaust: the most gain you might see 10-12? maybe a little more with certain applications. this is all about personnel sound preference, using the search feature will lead you to sights where you can hear them. I choose GHL's sound great, look great and claim to grow with you as you add higher hp mods like heads, cams, etc.

hope this helped :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag

I just bought the Blackwing and have yet to install it. I liked the fact that you dont have to modify the shroud for it. I considered the vararam but it looked too much like a water snorkel device for me.

The LGM headers are nice but I guess I am waiting for the prices on all C5 headers to come down.

I am considering a poormans mufflershop built loudmouth type system or perhaps a 2 tip borla, I dont really want to modify the stock Ti exhaust.

Dave this is Heath BTW

what's up heath, what happened to Raven?

Thanks for the replies guys. I know the LGM headers are expensive, but I want to run with cats. I saw a post on LS1tech that said the LGM headers were 1500 on the GP price. I'll look into the Blackwing, haven't seen too much about it.

Thanks,
Dave
