Traction Control
Drove a 99 convertible I'm thinking about buying tonight, car seemed great, but with the traction control on, I could still get the tires to chirp, does that mean the traction control is not working? I was under the impression that with the traction control on, if I reved the engine from a dead stop and gave it a spirited launch that there would be no noise.

Not true, the difference is that the tires may "chirp" slightly with TC on. Turn the TC off and watch 'em spin and smoke! The TC can only sense something has gone awash when the tires start to spin faster than they should when hooked up. That chirp you heard was what you should have heard until the TC took over.

I guess if I get it, I'll have to really hammer it and see what happens, I didn't want to scare the salesman or wreck the car before its mine.

Better to wreck it before its yours. However, the TC will allow quite a bit of wheel spin at times. I have found mine allowing both rear wheels to lightly spin while letting the back end of the car walk back and forth just a bit. Then other times it will cut in almost instantly when one wheel goes over a bump at 5 mph.
