Default PVC Mod HELP. Running into a Small Snag

I have the parts and was looking under my hood to start the install. I have a 2001 if that matters at all. I can remove both ends of the hose, 1 near the throttle body (where the small "L" shaped piece of rubber is) and the other under the fuel rail cover. Easy, No Big Deal................ :jester

However,

The small 2 inch piece of hose that remains after I pulled off the left side of the hose by the fuel rail cover and also the right hose near the throttle body is actually Attached to part of the car via a small black cable or something. I should be able to take this 2" piece out, BUT I CAN"T. :cuss It has what looks like a thick flexible metal electrical wire at the end that is attached to the car. The other end of this flexible metal wire is actually attached (built in) to the 2" piece of hose, and the hose is just sitting there suspended in the air and attached to part of the car via that darn support flexible cable/wire.

I haven't heard of anyone running into this?????? I want to remove the 2" piece of hose, but it is attached to part of the car and just sitting there in the way. I am not sure how to remove it or why no one else ran into this problem?

To better help with the location of the of this 2" piece of hose that I can't remove (or don't know how to remove), it is basically in the area of this picture where the blue part of the filter is, but it is attached via that flexible wire to a part of the car that is under where that filter is in the picture.

I know this is strange and my post confusing, but does anyone know what I am talkign about at all???

Thanks.....

:flag :flag :flag :D :D :flag :flag :flag

I think you're talking about the ground clamp. If you are, its a little nut that you can loosen and turn around. If that's not what you're talking about, post a pic and I'll try to help...

Look at this:

If you're talking about the what I think you are, look at the 7 o'clock position and that little nut is what you can loosen to turn or remove.

Yeah, it is the ground clamp! That's it. I was trying to take this off and attach directly to the plastic tube going to the part under the fuel rail cover.

To Be 100% Honest, this is soooo simple. I did this late last night and it was hard to see. I didn't see the plastic nipple connected to the end of the 2 inch hose, I was removing that hose and using the other nipple, :bb for lack of a better word.

Man just wait and do this stuff in the daylight, but sometimes you get so excited.

Thansk Indy, your always so helpful.

Gary

I have a 98 so my clamp is in a different place. Actually, it's now sitting in my tool chest b/c I can't figure out where it came from?! :cuss
I don't see any wire it could have been connected to. Maybe it connected to somewhere on my old LS1 manifold?

Thanks for the illistration though!

FDupny,

Thanks. It took me 5 minutes to do, Indy helped as well and I appreciate both of your pics. Maybe I will post a picture later tonight of my install and the 2 other mods I did, euro tail-lights and aluminum bezels.

You guys are so cool on the forum and very willing to help. I appreciate it greatly

Just curious, what's the ground clamp connected to, and why?
It's connected to a small stud sticking up from the engine. It's there to perform one function; to conduct heat directly to the pcv valve body to assist in the prevention of condensation inside the pcv valve itself. Depending on the length of the trip, short drives never let the system warm up enough to evaporate any moisture that gets into the pcv valve, and over time that water accumulates and turns the oil inside into a sludge. This in turn causes the pcv valve to stick and/or not function properly.Actually the term "ground" could be considered a bit of a misnomer. It really is acting as a "heat sink".
Hope that helps. :)

fdupny, Would it be possible to eliminate that 12" long loop of hose and use some sort of 90 degree angle connector instead? Nice work as is, but is there a better way?

It looks like you put the PCV valve before the filter. Putting it after is preferable since it would help keep the PCV clean.

Filter is a Campbell Hausfeld MP 5138 at Auto Zone $12.99, 3/8 " Fuel hose at Auto Zone (2 feet) , Went to Lowes for the 3/8" Brass Fittings, the part that screws into the filter is actually 1/4", you'll see when you go to lowes which one you need.

There is a great website that shows this procedure in detail and here it is for all of you: http://benelliwang.badassride.com/Engine/index.html#PCV

Filter $12.99

3/8" Fuel hose $2.99

(2) 3/8 Inch Brass Fittings (the bolt part on these is 1/4") $1.25 each

About $16-$18, not too bad at all and looks cool as well.

Good Luck

An angle connector would have been awesome.
I looped it so it would not kink.
If you had an angled NPT fitting or a right angle 3/8" piece of hose would work. Actually now that I think about it I have a swivel angled ntp fitting.
I just did it that way for simplicity and those were the parts I had on hand.
I will look into the other fitting this evening.

Just so you know where the arrow on the Blue Topped Glass Filter is supposed to point. I will make it EASY! There has been soo much confusion becuase everyone is naming parts of the car and people get confused.

The Arrow on the filter "Points" toward the Right front passenger side tire.

Here's a picture of my setup.

I know it's kinda close to the engine, but I plan on ordering a metal can for it shortly.

NOOOOOO
The arrow should point toward the intake manifold.
