This is a bit scary; I have a box of FLP's waiting to get installed. Is there a way to check to see if you have a bad set before it is to late? I would hate to think that FLP knew of the problem before shipping and hoped that the sets were passable. :skep:
Any one else have an exhaust leak at the header due to design?
So how do you find out if yours are "bad" or not? I just ordered the header kit C.O.D. a few days ago from FLP. I wonder what would happen if I refused to pay when they showed up?
Oh great another FLP problem. Their customer service sucks so I really feel for you. I had a set that came with huge deep stratches through the coating and I called up to have them replaced and mitch at flp gave me the run around. First he said I did it, even though I called my vendor within minutes of recieving them, then he said send him some pics and I never heard back until I called him and he said send em back and maybe I can recoat them for you. I posted my story on the forum (which you cant find in the archives anymore for some reason) and put up some pictures. When the good people of the corvette forum saw the headers I recieved they said they would not purchase FLP headers. A few hours later I got a call from Dan at FLP and he was a very nice person to deal with and got me out a set ASAP with a call tag for the old headers. FLP needs to get some customer service. This isnt the first time and I am getting sick of hearing about it now. I hope everything works out for you, your doing the right thing since this is the only way to get through to FLP and if you notice in my sig I dont have them on anymore. I lost 8rwhp with them on when I had a few bolt ons on my Z06. I was at 370 with the blackwing and slp loudmouth and when I added the headers I pulled 362. Im sure with tuning I could have gotten that power back and more but that is just more money to spend. FLP IMPROVE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE :mad
That completely sucks, what about Lou headers, I am sure you don't want to spend more money as you are already in the hole. But I would just get my money back or go with different headers.
I put on FLP's in December 2002. Passenger header mounting flange was concave warped about .100, I used it with the thick FLP fiber gaskets with no problems or leaks. I had called Mitch at FLP, He said that was normal, ok and would seal up ok. Other tuners I checked with said the ,don't worry, it will work.
Is this a new type of problem?
I just received a set yesterday that I inspected and contacted Mitch at FLP for due to scrathes/blk marks...here is his reply:
Marc,
There was 1 person that had a scratched header that posted on the forum... this was due to shipping. We did replace the header... although the new header probably became scratched more during the installation. Our previous packaging by far was the best in the business. I guarantee that no other company packages their headers as well as we do. We changed the header packaging for a few reasons, to get our logo on it, to make shipping easier (note the handles), and to improve upon the protection of the headers during shipping. I would need to see the headers before I can ship another set to you... I find it difficult to understand how that have scratches or rust. If you can take a few pictures and e-mail them back to me. I will have no problem shipping you a set of headers overnight and issuing a call tag to pick the old set up from your home.
Thanks,
Mitch
So far Mitch has been great and seems willing to do the right thing.....in light of this present issue I asked for a complete refund until they straighten this mess out. I will let you guys know how I am treated!
Installed my set on 12 Feb with out any major problems. As far as the scratches go, I created them during the install. OUT OF THE BOX the entire set was in great shape.
Even the two flanges on the collectors were exactly where they needed to be, no bending/forcing into place or hard to align. Only issue I had was outlet of the cat to inlet of the rear O2 pipe. A little sealing problem but used some high temp silicone and it's not a problem.
I have an 02 SS camaro, and just installed FLP's last weekend.
I have rewritten the directions, (i mean written since they didnt come with anything, but i suppose it should have been self explainatory)
Install headers, (fit very well by the way)
Put y pipe in, bang with hammer, hang on, cut 5 inches off of cat-back, band on more, wiggle, bang, wiggle, wiggle some more, get ticked off and take a break. Come back with great ideas, they dont work, bang and wiggle some more. Pay 15oo bucks, then buy header wrap because no matter what it still hits drivers floor pan. Reinstall newly shortened catback. Bang, wiggle, take car off jacks, realize that pipes are 2 inches off ground. Relife, bang, wiggle...ok you all get the idea.
Maybe they were warped  but they are on there now!
Thus far Mitch seems more than willing to have a satisfied customer....I will update you as to how it turns out in the end......I am hoping to have a problem free set that sounds and performs like I expected it to!!!!!!! Or a complete refund(shipping included)! I expect to speak with him and finalize this later in the day/eve and will post results!
Dynatech headers packages/coats/builds everything for them. They get them in by the 100s, so replacing them shouldnt be a probem. I need to get in contact with them as a friend of mine had his crack at the collector. :(
I have had mine since they released the first twenty sets and have not had any problems. The install was a little tricky and at times it seemed like they would not line up, but then all of the sudden after lots of messing they do.
I would not worry. Too many of us have them with good results. I bought mine on a deal, because they had scratches, from a Forum vendor. I called FLP to ask if they could suggest a way to keep the scratched areas(small scratches) from rusting. They offered to replace them at no cost. They also suggested hi-temp gray paint, applied with a cue tip, which worked great. Mine also went in easily and they are the previous design. Just don't tighten it all up until it's all together. Also, loosen the bracket the front tabs attach to and tighten those bolts last.
