I did the PCV mod today. I am not sure if my imagination is instigating this, but I CAN SWEAR that I hear a "whistling" after the mod with the coupe's engine running and the hood open.
I triple checked the filter and the flow direction "arrow" is going to the intake manifold.

You can use a small propane kit to find your vacum leak. They sell the small torch kits at just about any auto parts store. They come in handy for other odd jobs also.
Just screw in the end nozzle on and turn it on. Do NOT light it. Move the propane around your install and when you get near your vacum leak it will suck the propane into the engine and the idle will increase. You have found your leak. This small amount will not hurt anything.

Thanks for the replies! I found the problem. I let the care idle for a minute to get things a little warm and found the slight whistling coming from the valley cover area and at the intake manifold. I did not realize but the hoses that I got from Autozone got a little loose with the heat, so I put on a clamp at the valley cover area and a clamp on the intake manifold area and the whistling is gone.
I am not sure if anyone else is seeing this problem, but I'd suggest putting clamps at the valley cover area and the intake manifold. :D
Last thing, I am glad that I placed my filter near the radiator shroud instead of the area between the intake manifold. It gets really hot there...in the 1 minute idling, it was almost too hot to touch w/ bare hands! :cuss

Good luck to other PCV modders. [/QUOTE]

I also moved my filter from between the head and the belt tensioner. It looked really nice in that area, but it did get pretty hot. The Operating Instructions states that the max. temp. should not exceed 125 degrees fahrenheit. So with the extra length of hose and placing it further away from the engine, it should be alright.
Re: Help...am I hearing things after PCV mod??? (BruceZ)
BruceZ, this mod catches any liquid oil drops or fumes that come from the PCV valve. Normally that oil just gets dumped back into the intake manifold where it goes to the cumbustion chambers and gets burned up.
My question is this, Has anyone used this long enough to say how much oil they collected in the filter after say 3000 miles?
If it is only a few teaspoons, then why bother? Or maybe that little bit does matter? Anyone?
Re: Help...am I hearing things after PCV mod??? (CJS)
Judgement time:
I drove the vette to work today. The trip is 65 miles round trip. I got the beat up to 105 mph (5 times). I just took a look at the filter, there is about 1/2 a teaspoon of oil in there.
I spoke to a hot-rod enthusiast friend of mine and he said that this mod was a bona-fide one, especially for under 18 dollars. In the conversation, any of this "miniscular" oil that enters back into the intake manifold with get combusted, but it will cause spark (plugs) knocking, which leads to nasty gunked up manifolds.
So with my 1/2 teaspoon of oil in filter, I am satisfied with the setup and glad that my beast is running cleaner of any possible oil entering the intakes.
Lastly, I've been home for about 2 hours now and I just went outside to the car and the engine is very hot with bare hands. I have my CH filter near the radiator fan shroud, its warm, but boyyyy is the engine HOT!!! How is your filter holding up being dead smack next to engines???
Re: Help...am I hearing things after PCV mod??? (edmaverik)
Did mine last week. I have it right behind the tension pully. I only drove it for 30 minutes, but it was HOT. I see many others that put it there so I hope it is alright. I only had a certain amount of 3/8" hose from the auto parts, they were out, so i made due. if it becomes a problem, I'll just get more fuel line and run it to another location.

Guys, I did this mod today and I am concerned about the heat as well. Have any others routed the hose and filter to a location with less heat? Thinking about putting a longer hose to the intake and getting the filter away from the cylinder head. Appreciate the help and thanks.
