I just picked up a set of FLPs and was told that I could expect anywhere from 23-34 hp increase depending on use of offroad pipes or not! From the dyno run charts I have seen in the various posts...Its gonna be more like 12hp......Thats like saying $150 per 1 HP.......Guess I should have looked up dyno charts b4 purchasing the FLPs......hopefully after install I will feel a difference........I guess the worst case is the car will sound alot better!
Yes, 12-15rwhp is a realistic expectation from adding just headers. However, if you get your PCM tuned to take full advantage of the headers, you will then start to see gains over 20rwhp.
Unfortunately, its only with a cold air intake system that you ever see the price of HP being under $100/each in this game.
You'll feel a SOP difference. I kept finding myself in the higher rpms enjoying the performance. Not a huge SOP difference but it definately pulls harder.

:iagree: It's not like you're going to go out and say, "Oh my God what a difference!" But you will be able to tell that the car pulls harder, especially in the higher RPMs.
I can relate to this... I was tired of spending $1000 and getting 5, 10 or 15 more rwhp... I decided to get my car setup for Major HP and then just did it!! No more $1000 10 rwhp mod problems. :smash:
Headers allow the engine to breathe better. The more mods installed on your car the more horsepower will be felt and you will feel the difference.I have experienced on other cars I have owned one mod helps,as I added more mods the each mod with the other mods give a larger horsepower increase. :chevy :chevy :flag :flag :chevy :chevy
I will tell you about my power increase with 3 mods that were supposed to give great results... LS6 intake, 1.8 crane full roller rockers & TPIS longtubes... results were 16 rwhp.. and that was with a perfect tune!!
Of course installing those parts were just part of the overall package I needed to have to get the Monster HP I have now... :smash:
Thats all that there is for tuning for power with LS1 edit. Most C5's run rich is the main thing that can be adjusted and they take out spark retard and add timing if possible with out knock.
I have an ATI 7lbs kit after adding the FLP (using cats) I lost 10rwhp. Tunning will give me back all of it & then some, but had I known it has to be tuned (~$500) I would not have done it.
Even without tuning, I'm seeing cars pick up 20rwhp with just a good long tube header system. I'd say 15 would be worst care. With tuning, the number should pretty easily be 25-30 rwhp.
Quote: "you must have ment, C5's from the factory run LEAN... adding intakes, headers, cat backs only make them run leaner."
I should have said, C5's usually run rich at WOT. The PCM adjusts and keeps the cruise A/F at a perfect 14.7. But at WOT the factory settings are on the RICH side and most mods, cause this to only get Richer, here's why.
Now I agree that putting on headers and intake etc. causes more air flow and a LEAN condition. But this is instantly compensated for by the fuel trims, to make it 14.7 again.
The fuel trims have to add more fuel to get the cruise A/F back to 14.7, so the fuel trims are in a RICHER condition. At WOT the PCM looks at these RICHER fuel trims and says I must make WOT RICHER also.
This is why most mods tend to make the C5 run richer.
