I just saw a short "commercial" interview on TV about Comp Cam's new 1.75 and 1.85 rocker arms for an LS-1 engine. They are a direct bolt on repalcement for the stock rocher arms and are said to fit under the stock rocker arm cover. Horsepower gains were implied but not quantified.
Does anyone know anything about this product, or has anyone changed to higher lift rocker arms, and if so, what kind to HP increase is possible? Is there any downside to going to higher lift rocker arms?
I had the 1.8 Crane Full Roller rockers on my car for a while. At higher RPM's you can feel the car pull harder because of the increased lift the rockers gave me. My understanding is that the longer lever of the rocker can cause a side pressure to the valve over time. In addition to that you will need to replace your valve springs because of valve float that will occur with the new lift from the rockers. I spent 3 months figuring out that one on my car to get it to run correctly.. :mad
IMO, you should install a cam, new double springs and leave the stock rockers in the car. Your results will be MUCH BETTER!! :yesnod:
I like the lack of friction from the roller tip and I will probably get a 1.7 set for the 436 for that reason and I would think with the same as stock 1.7 I should not have any of the related problems you mentioned, I don't expect any hp gains of course. I won't be using the 1.8's with the 600 to 612 cam and I'm not sure they would clear the piston anyway.
