Default Cam question

I am thinking of buying a cam for the car. What would be a good cam for a 98 A4 with a catback, vortech ram air, 100 shot of giggle juice. I want something that will make the car sound alittle meaner. Also what kinda of tuning would need to be done.

I can offer my opinions but you might call one of the tuners listed on the forum. If one of them was close to me I would be looking too. Truth is with an A4 you really need to look at a total package. Things like higher stall torg converter, maybe gears, maybe a shift kit and some other things. Bigger cam may need head work for more air flow then maybe long tube headers to get rid of spent gases. Hope you get some more opinions, good luck. :) :chevy

The MTI T1 cam is a popular choice for A4's. Good balance of performance gains without too much compromise in driveability and no tuning necessary.

You'll want to pair this with some new valve springs and possibly some Ti retainers and new pushrods as well. Don't forget the long tube headers too.

All together, you're looking at about $2500 installed to get everything done right. You could add anywhere from 35-60rwhp with these mods.

My 97 A4 picked up about 60 RWHP (357 RWHP) with the Comp Cams 212/218 cam and the A&A Stage I heads with no tuning. Idle is smooth and drivability as good as stock. :hurray:

Hey saw -- you say that was w/o tuning, thats great. What do you think is the highest duration and lift possible with your set-up?

Richie, I'm a bit confused -- the T1 from MTI is recommended on their site for A4s to be PCM reprogrammed (raised idling). I'm calling them tomorrow for clarification since I'm trying to buy their stage II setup. I am not doubting or contradicting you but here is their link; http://www.motorsporttech.com/c5_engine01.asp

Your advise was great & I am actually taking it -- just wanted a bit of clarification though. Thx in advance.

I ran a Comp Cam with stock heads and Nitrous. I was running 10.60s @ 130 mph 3 years ago. I still have this Cam, Springs and Ti Retainers. It ran on stock tuning, but the idle could have been raised a little. If Ls1 Edit had been around, I would still be running this Engine. If you want to save some money, I will sell it to you. I really have no reason to keep it. The cam Specs are 214/224 with 525/532 lift.

Intresting only 357rwhp (what something is wrong), in Cali we can not get to agressive (smog test), however, I would like to hook up with you at Cali speedway, I did not do heads! :yesnod: :yesnod:
