I tried to remove the restrictive screen on the stock MAF sensor but the screen appears to be welded to the housing. Any advice for removing the screen is appreciated.
CAREFULLY insert a screwdriver, dowel, or such into the MAF from the non-screen side. The tiny wires inside are very delicate. Set the unit on a firm surface such as a garage floor or 2x4 piece of wood. Lightly tap on the screen until it loosens from the MAF. Then just push it out, & you're done! Did I mention to be careful not to touch those tiny wires on the inside of the MAF? :D
Mine did not come out in 1 peice, I used a screw driver and carefully destroyed the screen - It worked fin.. But DO be careful of the houseing and those little wires.
I removed mine by using a utility knife with a sharp tip and cut at the edge of the screen and the MAF. When I got the cut completely through I took a needlenose plier and carefully pulled the screen out.
The hardest part is cutting the screen. There is absolutely no way of removing the screen without damaging it (if that is your concern). You will be shocked when you assemble the MAF backtogether and turn on the car... BE PREPARED FOR THE NEW SOUND AND POWER!
