Transmission Problems? - Manual (6-spd) Noise
Received the following via my local club (http://www.corvetteclubcentralga.org/index.htm) from a new C5 owner in Belgium. Since I took delivery of my '02 6-spd while stationed in Europe (I'm in the USAF), they thought I could address the person's concerns.
He writes:
"I have a 2002 manual trans. Corvette with 250 miles on it. I am the first owner since January 2003. The car has a strange growling noise at the 1st. gear during the first acceleration. The noise gets more as the car gets warm (only on the 1st. gear). I have taken the car to two different chevy dealers here in Belgium, and they have both told me the noise was coming from the gear box satellites. They claim that they have gotten in touch with the Chevrolet distribution center and there they were told that the noise was normal. I would like to know if you have had any similar experience with any other manual trans. Corvettes? Here in Belgium, there are not many manual trans. Corvettes to try, at least I could not find any. Also the technicians are inexperienced on these special American cars."
I too have had a "rattling" noise when in 1st gear and moving slowly, but was told by my dealer and Chevrolet that it was normal and caused in part by the relocation of the transmission from a fron/engine-mounted position to the rear. An odd quirk, if you will, that has not caused a problem for or bothered me.
I've sent him a response, but does anyone else feel like they want to take a stab and alleviate his concerns via a posting here or an e-mail (Murad.Saygi2@deceuninck.com)?
Thanks for the time and save the wave!

It is covered in the instructionial video and
in the owner's manual as an expected happening.
Now I have to tell hyou that my '94 Trans Am (6sp)
did the very same thing. It is annoying but not a real issue.
Learn to drive it making the least amount of sounds possible
and enjoy the very best you can.
Lot's of Luck!
