What will my cruising rpm's on highway be with the 3:73 v.s. 3:42, and is the higher rpm's in anyway going to hurt my car overtime? The shop guy thought the 3:73 would greatly enhance the fun factor over the 3:42's. My 3:15's only have 1300 miles on them and they will re-work the carrier with new ring and pinion. My other mods are bolt ons and hoping not to have to do heads and cam...running out of money! Does 1200 sound fair to change my 3:15's into 3:73's. As always, thanks for you help and advice! :D
This link should explain it all.
By the way I am installing 3.42 gears, 2800 Pro Torque, and Trans -go shift kit .
I am having my 3.15 removed and 3.42 in their place in the 3.15 carrier.
E-mail for info.

If the $1200.00 includes installation it is a very fair price. I had 3.73s installed in my 3.15 carrier it cost me $350.00 for the 3.73 ring and pinion, $200.00 to install the 3.73s in my 3.15 carrier and $500.00 to swap the carrier and a T/C in an out of my car.
First I am a good friend of Jay Lomel of CAMCO Construction there in Saint Cloud.
Second I am a big fan of the 3.73 gears. I started with 3.15's, went to 3.42's, and finally 3.73's.
Like Mitch C, if you can drop the car off and come back in a few days and drive it away with 3.73's for $1200 it is fair.
I would say that if plan on a basically stock engine then 3.73's are great. If you are going to get a cam or heads or Super Charger probably 3.42's are better.
Also you can get 3.42's without any programming where 3.73's will require additional programming at $400-$600 additional cost.
I can go about 80 at 2500 rpm. If you plan on driving the car for more than 2 or 3 hours of highway fairly often again I would get the 3.42's. I only drive on the highway for at most an hour and mostly just rod arround on the streets and the 3.73's are terrific fun.
the install is another 375 on top of the 1200 so I guess its not such a great deal. I am getting the tuning done for 300 and I just had headers put on so I believe the timing is good to do both. I will be going with the 3:73's and not doing the heads and cam.....atleast I think I won't...these mods just seem to creep up on a guy's wallet so I am going to take a break for awhile. I need to get some miles on the car!

Re: Question..3:42 vs. 3:73 (KingTut)
I just got a 3.42 ring and pinion set for $75, the install kit (shims, bearings, etc.)for around $100, and it will be $425 to install. Do I have to have the torque converter? Is there anything else that I will need? Will these gears work or do I have to get a new carrier? Realize I know nothing about gear swaps, I just know that I want to kick a**. lol Thank you
