Default Help me out with cam selection.

Ok, I don't know what all the cam specs are, and everything, so I'd just like to describe what I want and see if I can get some suggestions. I love lope. I need to pass emissions, and it needs to idle (yes, I know that's pretty vague  ). Also, would there be anything else I'd need to upgrade to run the cam(s) you suggested? Check sig. As far as other power mods go, I'll probably run a small shot of nitrous. I also plan on adding gears (will decide on ratio after all "power" mods are done. Thanks for the help!

A 224/224 .581/.581 114 lsa Comp Xer cam will probably net you 30-40 rwhp...it will lope a little, idle smooth with a hole in the TB. You will need a good set of Valve Springs and a tune to go with it.....

If you ever decide to do a Stage 1 or 2 Heads you will have a car with the potential to make 410-430 rwhp and be right at the edge of passing smog. If you can install LT headers, underdrive pully, and LS6 intake..you will be towards the upper end on the hp.

The 224 has very good mid range and torque..right where any LS1 or LS6 needs it the most.

Good Luck.

A great cam for our cars is the 02 ZO6, it will give you everything you want except lope. No tuning necessary, but you will have to upgrade to ZO6 springs. All of this can be had for less than $500 plus labor..There is a plethora of other cams out there, from mild to wild, and opinions to go with them. Most will require tuning which by itself can be expensive....

A quick comparison...
the 02 cam will keep you in the 12's and 13's.
A 224 cam will get you into the low 11's...you decide.

I think A&A, MTI, and other vendors have valvetrain upgrade kits..$2-300.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Z06 cam require changing the valves and pushrods too? I thought it had a smaller base diameter or whatever?

Go with the Grand Am Cup cam: 239/251//570/570/106. Warning, this cam will produce a 'little' lope :D

Here's the thing. Picking a cam is very difficult and time consuming to educate yourself on what to do. Then after you do it , you will constantly re-evaluate your decision.
Unless you pick the perfect cam for you. Which you will never really know if you did, because it is so hard to change cams, and most people don't get to try too many.
But after you get some kind of cam you will be very happy, I can't remember anyone here who wasn't, me included.
