Default Changed out my valve cover gaskets

My valve cover gaskets were toast and had been leaking a bit of oil this week.

I was hesitant at first, but my buddy John had the manuals so we removed his heads first. (He had a blown head gasket)

Not that difficult really once you figure out all the connectors and stuff.

We ended up having to buy a decent torque wrench after the Autozone POS torque wrench snapped one of John's valve cover bolts. :mad

Hmmm...maybe I should do a solid roller cam.

Now that I'm brave enough to remove the covers I should be able to check the lash every 5k.

Hmmm...not sure.

I was thinking about going today, but I'm going to have to see how the day pans out.

Would you like me to give you a call if we decide to go?

I removed mine to install my headers....didn't bother to torque them down, just snugged them up.......

Yeah, the reccomended torque is 106 inch pounds.
Not a whole lot to be sure. and no specific pattern to adhere to like the heads.

Scott, was John the guy that had emailed me a few times? I got really busy at work and totally forgot to keep up with that email thread. Did yall get him sorted out? What the heck are yall doing using a torque wrench on valve cover bolts?! Just snug em down, its not an exact science! :jester

Dude this is what happens when you get a couple of Programmer/Engineers together. :)

We had the manual out and it said to torque 'em to 106 ip, and thats what we did.

Yeah, John is the guy who emailed you. We took the heads off and replaced the gaskets. Well, I wasn't there for the reassembly, so he broke the valve cover bolt on his own. ;)

He's already considering tearing down again to mod it some more, so it looks like I'll get a little more wrenching experience.

I used to torque everything to the exact spec too, dont worry. I'm a programmer too :yesnod:

Now I figured out what is important to torque exactly and what isnt. It just takes time.

I'll send john an email apologizing about not replying...I've just been busy these days.
