I was thinking of getting the 02 ls6 cam and springs. Is this really all I need to bring my 01 coupe up to 02 ls6 power (not including my mods)? Is it worth doing? SHould I just spend more and get a aftermarker cam?
The ’02 LS6 has different heads as well that has bigger ports, higher compression as well as lighter and longer valves. The reason for the valves being longer is that the ’02 LS6 cam has a base circle that is about .050” smaller. To use this cam with other than ’02 LS6 valves will require longer pushrods. By the way, the lightweight '02 LS6 valves are $40 a piece.
I run the 02 LS6 cam and springs in my car. It's an A4 with bolt-ons including headers. It idles perfect and pulls strong. After dyno-tuning with LS1Edit my best pull was 348rwhp and 355 ft-lbs tq. I also run a Yank Y3200 and 18" tires. It peaks at 5900 rpms and is nearly flat until 6600 with only a slight loss in hp. I also run the stock valves and pushrods (as do several LS1 F-Bodies with the same setup). Another benefit is it will pass the tough CA emissions.
That combo is among the most popular over at LS1.com. It is far the easiest and most cost effective way to add a reasonable amount of hp to your Corvette. No one one I know or have heard of ,has had to change push rod length. Some have replaced with hardened ,but at the stock length. The cam requires no tuning, idles smooth and with the usual bolt-ons is putting out 370+hp. If you're a diy, this can done for under $500...which by the way what it normally cost just to tune one of these more radical cams....
